Due to the drought in California I am cleaning my cars a lot less these days, but the amount of bird poop had me worried for the paint. And my water bill tells me I only use about 25% of the average in my neighborhood in any event so I figured cleaning it once every 6 weeks isn’t that bad. Hopefully we’ll get El Nino this year and the water situation will get a bit better.

She’ll probably be up for sale in the next month or two. When I bought her I hoped I’d have time to do some work by myself since she is pretty simple and straightforward, but unfortunately work and life have conspired to keep my pretty busy.

Those self-wash car washes seem to work pretty well out there. Since they recycle the water pretty well, it doesn’t waste much either. Side note, saying “cleaned the Hudson” makes me think the Hudson River. And then I remember that nothing can clean the Hudson River!

Lol same thing I thought when I read it. I recently took a boat trip around the city and they explained that the waste water treatment facilities build over the past decade have helped clean the Hudson considerably compared to how it was in the 90’s.

This works well on my cars. I’ve been using it four a couple years now. Just make sure you spray it on liberally to avoid making any fine scratches. Perfect for removing bird poop. I wouldn’t use it for a really dirty car but for light to moderate dust and dirt it works like a charm. It’s a lot less hassle than the traditional hose and bucket method too.

The seals around the doors aren’t perfect, so while I’ve tried that in the past to save water you end up having to police the inside of the windows with a towel. Which is suboptimal.

Well how do you wash your car at home then? By self-wash I meant the kind with a hose that you basically just rent out the stall and turn the knob for soap and different water speeds.

Oh right on. I thought you meant the kind where you drive through a little tunnel and high-pressure hoses squirt the car down.

Didn’t realize those used recycled water. Might have to start going back to them.

Not really sure if they actually recycle the water that well, but I figured they must. Yeah I would never go to a machine wash, even a touchless one. I always find it worth the effort to do it by hand.
